Essay on Child Labor in Bangladesh

Children are potential human capital in all economic system and in any system children need a certain preparatory period for being the most productive and contributory to the society. Both in the rural and urban areas of the country a lot of children are in far distant and deprived from all the facilities and scopes which are of utmost necessity for their proper growth. This state of deprivation has further aggravated and transformed with the phenomenon of child labor

In the poverty stricken families the child labor phenomenon is considered to be a great problem for the last decades, as it hinders harmonious physical and mental growth of the child retarding the full fruition of his productive and creative talents. The child labor phenomenon is an emerging issue which social scientists and anthropologists are to some extent cautioned to be a major social and humane disaster of the globalized world, which will have disastrous effects on the communities and countries and even on human civilization, if it is too late to curve with joint effort and deliberate initiative.

Here in Bangladesh child constitute 48% (Approx. 51.5 million) of the total population, in which 6.1 million i.e 11% of total population is considered as working children. By responding to the disaster of child labor and to ensure full blooming of the children's talent in better conditions, multi-dimensional programs have been launched in Bangladesh by the Government and a number of non-government organizations (NGOs). It was felt that with better coordination, sharing of knowledge, experiences, and resources, the organizations could augment their strength to a great extent and achieve their goals in the shortest possible time.
