In the novel "Brave New world", the protagonist, John the savage, grows up in a traditional native american community. While the rest of the world is ruled by a dictator, who forces everyone to behave according to a certain ideology called "Ford ship" which completely denies the existence of family, religion, philosophy and etc... John visits the society, and he becomes appalled of how technologically and inhumanely the society is. He spends his whole life telling people that only family and religion can bring a truly happy life. The people learned from him and they evaluated themselves because of him. 

In ancient Greece, 200 B.C, modern logical thinking began to see it birth. Socrates the modern Einstein in his age, innovating in science, math and reasoning, always taught his students to ask the question why. No matter what an authority said ,he always told them to ask the reasoning behind it. The leaders of classical Greece feared the power that had enthralled in the educated mass so they charged Socrates for corrupting the youth. Even though he was charged, his concepts of questioning any authority lived on his disciples. Without learning from that man, the democratic government of Greece wouldn't have been an archetype of a successful government. So learning from others can make us see many valuable axioms and aphorisms that stop us from doing anything abruptly without thinking. 

Martin Luther King, a soft spoken Christian minister, decided to fight for black equality. Although He faced many perils and castigations, he stood up and fought for what he believed; in events like March on Washington, he peacefully yet boldly stated the flaws he saw in America. Without him, America wouldn't have learned from its mistakes and it wouldn't have encompassed so much equality as it is now. 

People who are like John the savage, Socrates and Martin Luther king, teach us many important lessons in our lives and make us see our shortcomings and from that point we get to develop our selves for the better and for the best.

Dallas resident and local hip-hop artist L.E.T.H.A.L MC expressed, "I'm shocked, I thought it would never happen. I figured they would continue capturing his underbosses, but this! I never imagined in a million years. It definitely makes me question it, for no other reason because it's Osama bin Laden. If it was anybody else, I wouldn't even think twice about it." The artist also went on to add: "I think that's just what it is, many people flirting with the reality that he will never get caught, and then the person to tell you is the President. So in a minute people will be on to next one. It is an ongoing thing going back to JFK and what happened there, so it's definitely going to be there." 

It's unclear as to how many "myths" there are regarding his death, but one thing that is clear is that, his is not the first, and you may as well predict he won't be the last, as many say. Well during world war one there was a birth of the League of Nations. It was here that we found the very first time countries coming together to help their neighbors. This is the real birth of international relations; it was found here that different countries helped them with food supply, ammunition and soldiers.

In world war two the growth of realism took place, this dominated the international relations. What is realism? “Realism is grounded in an emphasis on power politics and pursuit of national interests” according to international relations from a realism point of view politics internationally was anarchic, it is when a state or country acts in order to benefit for its own interests and not the rest of the world. Then you get pluralism definition which is where there is a diffusion of power only among a few countries. This took place during 60s and 70s.

If you look at today, the 21st century, we find that we still need the support other countries. Take a look at the 9/11 saga when the bombings in America took place. America needed help even though they had a lot of power and many countries agreed to help them. If you look at Zimbabwe without the help of many countries the citizens of Zimbabwe would be dying of starvation and the internal war. 

International relations is very important because every country is affected with international news. We have to keep in contact with all the nations in order for trade, economic, social and many other reasons. International relations have the same relevance now like it did centuries ago. This does not mean that because world war one and two are over that we don’t need interaction between the nations. We still have the war in the Middle East and the problem of Zimbabwe which affects everyone. If there were no international relations you wouldn't be aware of what’s going on around us. Looking at the price of fuel the reason of it being so high in South Africa is because the imported oil from other countries which keeps going up.

Humans often think that they need only one constant religious relationship in their life. These commandments are ten rules of moral that were, and are required to be followed by Moses’ people and Christians around the world. 

In, Life of Pi, The color green through the carnivorous Island could represent the Garden of Eden in Christianity. When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, they ate fruit from the forbidden tree, which god classified as a sin. In Life of Pi, Pi, depends on the only tree on the island that has fruit, though when he opens the fruit, he finds teeth. Christianity is represented in many ways in Life of Pi, and is a huge dependent source for Pi whilst also being an element between survival and death. 

The code of conduct and the importance of good moral is spread through the Bhagavad-Gita. In chapter 9, Krishna speaks of how devotion and forgiveness are the ultimate keys to life. In this chapter, Krishna says that if a devotee commits a horrendous act, he will be rectified as a devotee of Krishna never perishes. 

In Life of Pi, Pi uses the color orange to represent Hinduism. In Hinduism, orange is the color of the second Hindu Chakra, which is associated with a person 8 to 14 years old. In the story, Pi also associates orange as being, “a Good Hindu Color”. Orange is associated with the color of survival. All of the elements that Pi uses to survive were orange- the whistle, the life jackets, the tarpaulinand Richard Parker. Hinduism is one of the main elements in the story that keeps Pi’s survival possible.

The Chapter of Thunder gives a basic overview of the main values of Islam: devotion to god, and helping of others. In life of Pi, Pi uses the color of Green to represent Islam, as well as Christianity. The Koran says that the Residents of Heaven will wear green silk robes. Muhammad is also said to have worn green and often held a green banner. In the story, the reference to the Lote tree is also an Islam reference. Lote trees are commonly used as boundary markers and are used as a reference of when Muhammad’s crosses the border from the mortal world into heaven. The island in Life of Pi is used as a reference to the Garden of Eden, to which Pi has ascended into. Islam is an element between Pi’s destruction in the story and his survival.

Through all of these religions devotion and synchronization with God is the ultimate Goal. In Christianity, Jesus preaches that the two ultimate commandments are to devote yourself to God, and to treat others as you would treat yourself. In Mat 22:37 Jesus says,” unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” In Mat 22:38, It is states that, “This is the first and great commandment.” Whilst in Mat 22:39, Jesus says, “And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”. In Hinduism, Krishna speaks of how loyalty and forgiveness are the keys to life. In chapter 7 of the Bhagavad-Gita, Krishna says, “Striveth for Truth; and of those few that strive— Nay, and rise high—one only—here and there Knoweth Me, as I am, the very Truth.”. In Islam, Allah speaks of how devotion to God, and the helping of others is the ultimate way on the path of righteousness. In The Chapter of Thunder, Allah says, “‘Those who believe and whose hearts are comforted by the mention of God,—aye! by the mention of God shall their hearts be comforted, who believe and do what is right. Good cheer for them and an excellent resort.’”. Through all of these religions, the main purpose in life is to love, and devote yourself to god.

Computers have helped finding criminals in the past or detecting possible terrorist threats against a country. If a mayor or president received murder threats or possible attacks to a large city or airport they would be able to trace down the computer to which it was sent from to find the person. Finding criminals through computers have happen currently, since some of the criminals would likely have a social network like Myspace, Facebook, tagged, or others sites, since these websites are public you’re able to find the location where they are at. Since many people are not careful with what they write online they can easily be detected.

Another reason computers have helped society is through the power of music. Computers have programs such as iTunes that can be downloaded into the computer, other programs are Windows Media Player and Windows DVD Maker. All these programs have music and movies that can put into iPods and mp3 players, it is an easier way to listen to music. In the Windows Media Player you are able burn CD’s and RIP CD’s into the computer and through Windows DVD Maker you make you own DVD of anything or just burn a movie to put into a DVD.

Another important factor why computers have been helpful to people is the use of the programs that can help organizations, government, and public officials. Some of the programs that are used by any individual is the clock, language, and region link which allows to change the clock time on your laptop, or you can change the language, and you can change the location where the computer is located. Most people use it for charts, graphs, and calendar that can be projected in many different events like to show the population of genders, races, and ages. The Government used these charts and graphs for many reasons but they are especially used to find projections like they can see how many people are unemployed in the country, how many have lost their houses, or can also be used to compared past projections with today’s statistics to see what they can fix. Discrimination was highly common in the 1950’s especially in the south. Most people know that the south has a bad reputation and a long history of racism. Many African Americans and minorities were treated with little to no respect and were often harassed because of their skin color. 

According to the article, “Story of black struggle resonates with immigrants” from USA Today, reports that discrimination existed for immigrants. This is true.  It is hard being disrespected because of your skin color and having an accent and refusing to turn the other cheek. If a young adult from modern society were faced with the same situation, fists and blows would be thrown and arrest would definitely be made. One amazingly interesting thing about your brain is that is has the capacity to store all of the information you could ever take in. Every thought, every sound, picture, book, every moment recorded all throughout your life. There is a “catch 22” afoot. While you can store all of that information, the problem, is to recall it. Try finding a randomly chosen book in the Library of Congress without light, power and some sort of catalog system. The information is there, but no one can get to it. But if your thoughts define you, why not give them incredible depth. A thought, as an abstract thing, holds no importance. Like a blank canvass, a stem cell, a brand new puzzle or unworn clothes, each seems to have the potential to become something more, incomplete as it stands. Have you ever read something and noticed that you have a mental voice? When you read do you hear yourself reading? A similar concept, if you don’t follow this introspective tirade, would be realizing that you control every single breath you take until you forget your obligation to breath and your body’s natural rhythm takes control of the situation again. Both strange concepts.

If you are following these jumbled thoughts then the question should now have become: “Why do people forget?” The answer to the aforementioned question is largely unattainable for many reasons; in short, because many people will have their own opinion and settle with a conclusion they themselves have drawn up. Of course, sometimes it helps to jump start a person’s thought process: painful memories, self preservation, and memory overload. All of the aforementioned are viable answers. It does not matter for now. It will be discussed later. Thoughts, ideas, notions and feelings, all come together in a seemingly intangible way to form our reality. Such a strange and foreign concept when examined in any light. It is, however, one of the many things we take for granted on a regular basis.

An idea, it seems, can not be entirely original. Everything you know is based on something you have been shown. After all, most ideas are borrowed. Is that not right? If you doubt this then ask why. Or for that matter how? How are you able to communicate? You can communicate with people if you are indeed reading this. The simple answer is that it was a learned behavior. Someone else had a thought and you based your own upon it. One man could not have developed all of the technology we hold so dear today. It took generations to get a firm grip on the concepts of chemistry, physics, mathematics, astronomy and we’ve barely begun to scratch the surface. Thoughts were passed between generations like burning embers, transferred from an old fire to create a new one. You can’t truly grasp the concept of a thought. It’s like seeing oneself trapped between two mirrors. If you look at just the right angle it appears that the reflected versions of yourself go on without end. That is to say, you can’t really form a thought of a thought. At least you shouldn’t be able to if you can’t define a word with a word. That just makes simple sense or perhaps not.

It was a blazing eighty-two degrees and with a slow and silent start the game began. All you could hear was the thud of the ball being passed, and the coaches’ comments from the side line. The opponents lost control of the ball and I received possession. As i dribbled it up the center and straight to the penalty box, two defensive opponents’ started closing in on me. Panicked, I thought my only chance to make a goal would be to kick it from the penalty box. I took in a breath, pulled back and kicked with full force towards the ball. Seconds later it flew over the defense, past the goalie, and into the goal net.

Continuing, the game went on to be difficult. Our opponent’s team had strong kickers, and rapidly tied the game one to one. Half time came and our coach called us into a huddle. 

“Guys, we can still do this, we are not losing, don’t give up now,” she encouraged. Everybody knew she stood right, and we recognized we could win, if we strived. As a result, that is what we did. The second half we played as if it would be our last game ever. Their team scored one goal, and our team scored two. Putting the games score at three to two. “Two minutes left, keep it out of the goal!” our coach yelled to us. Each one of us played hard, and when the whistle rang to signify the game was over, the score remained left at three to two. We left with a victory that day, because of determination, effort, and perseverance we won that game.

The Tragedy of Macbeth Free Essay

The tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare outlines how lust for power can bring about the corruption of the human person. This clearly evident in the character Macbeth, whose ambition to become King of Scotland ultimately leads to his tragic demise. Through the prophecies of the evil beings, an insignificant seed was planted in Macbeth, however, the thirst of power he was tempted to drink. Through persuasion by his soul mate, his vaulting ambition began to grow without hesitance. The desire to stay King and preserve his title, called the tyrant within him to unleash its wrath on anyone who stood in his path, even his closest friends. Each step bringing him closer and closer to the evident end. 

The seed of ambition planted in Macbeth’s heart brought about his downfall. Macbeth, was given a glimpse of prosperity through the witches prophecies, “All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter.” Despite Banquo’s warnings, “Often times, to win us our harm, the instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betray’s in deepest consequences”, Macbeth was curious to explore the predictions of the instruments of darkness. In effect, thoughts of murder and betrayal entered his mind. “If good, why do I yield to that suggestions, whose horrid image doth unfix my hair.” Thus, the monster within began to alter Macbeth’s mind into thoughts of greatness. 

Notwithstanding countless resistance against his own ambition, Macbeth ultimately gave into his own ambition by which he was driven to his end. Lady Macbeth, seeking her own ambition ultimately used Macbeth for her own gain. Through her cunning persuasion techniques Macbeth was helpless but watch ambition turn against him. “When you durst do it, then you were a man; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man.” Despite resistance, “We will proceed no further in this business”, it was really a matter of time till greed got the better of him, “I am settled; and bend up each corporal agent to this terrible feat.” 

Regardless of the fact that Duncan was God’s anointed and appointed monarch, Macbeth was willing to kill his own relative in exchange for his tragic downfall. Driven by lust, Macbeth invited Duncan for a feast at his home, only by deceiving Duncan of the two faced Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. “Make our faces vizards to our hearts, disguising what they are.” Though Macbeth knew the evil of his actions, he was willing to trade his heart with the devil. “I am afraid to think what I have done; look on’t again I dare not.” Overcome by sadness of the death of his relative Macbeth had truly realised the extent of his actions, “What hands are here! Ha-they pluck out mine eyes! Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, making the green one red.” Though Macbeth wanted to stop, he could no stop his uncontrollable ambition. 

Despite the fact that Macbeth achieved his aim, his ambition lead him to his demise through killing more to conserve his innocence. Macbeth ruthlessly killed the innocent guards in their sleep, excusing himself by asking, “Who can be wise, amazed, temperate and furious, loyal and neutral, in a moment? No man.” In killing the guards Macbeths ambition was evident. After the first kill Macbeth was able to kill without hesitating. Macbeth has realised that it would be easier to keep killing than to turn back. “I am in blood stepped in so far, that, should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o’er.”

Even though Banquo was Macbeth’s closest friend, the attempted murder of Banquo and Fleance stepped him closer to his demise. Feeling threatened by Banquo’s knowledge of the witches’ prophecies Macbeth had decided to terminate him.

Regardless of the fact that everyone had turned against him, Macbeth’s ambition refused to step down, bring about his inevitable downfall. When Macduff, had went to seek help from Malcolm, Macbeths fury was seen in his act for slaughtering Macduff’s innocent wife and children. By killing everyone who stood in Macbeths way, Macbeth had turned Scotland upside down. 

In essence, the tragedy of Macbeth depicts how ambition can bring about the downfall of a human person. Through deceptive predictions, Macbeth’s mind began to construct evil thought to attain greatness. His ambition became apparent when his allowed to be persuaded into Killing. Through his first act of murder, Macbeth had become obsessed with his power and title and continued to kill for his ambition, which inexorably brought about his finish.

In the beginning Zero was a ward of the state his mother had abandon him he was poor helpless person and couldn’t even read, one day he decided to steal a pair that were donated by a famous baseball superstar the shoe was supposed to be auction to an orphanage and raise money. Zero ran away with the pair of shoes as Zero ran he heard the cop’s siren Zero got scared and threw the shoes over the bridge. Zero about culpa days later was sent to camp green lake for stealing another pair of shoes. 

At camp green Lake Zero meet a boy name Stanley yelnats who was the kid that was sent to camp green lake for getting convicted for stealing the shoes that Zero originally stolen. Zero and Stanley became friends who hanged out with each other and soon became best friends.

Stanley changed Zero’s life because he taught Zero how to read spell and speak for himself. Zero learned how to stick up for himself and gain self confidence thanks to Stanley. Stanley would also stick up for zero. 

During camp green lake Zero ran away from camp green lake Stanley soon ran away to go look for Zero. Stanley found him but Zero wouldn’t go back to camp green lake instead they decided to climb gods thumb to find water. As they were climbing Stanley told him about the curse on his family. Zero and Stanley had become best friends. While they were climbing god’s thumb Zero fainted Stanley had to carry Zero up the mountain. Stanley had eventually made the top and Zero had woken up Stanley’s curse was broken. Later on Zero had told Stanley that it was Zero that stole the shoes, Zero was confident enough to tell Stanley. Stanley replied and said it was destiny. During that night on top of god’s thumb Stanley and Zero had decided to go and dig for treasure. They both eventually found it and later on Stanley’s lawyer came and took Stanley and Zero home.

Free Essay on Julius Caesar Play

Julius Caesar is a stage play in the form of a tragedy performed in 1599. It is the first Shakespeare play performed in the Globe Theater in London, England centering on the death of Julius Caesar and the downfall of one of his killers, Marcus Brutus. Because the drama recounts actual historical events, it may also be referred to as a history play.

Elizabeth I had been monarch over England since 1559 but was in her mid-60s in 1599, and speculation was rife regarding a successor. She had no heir, and there was considerable worry that her death might lead to warfare such as had consumed the houses of Lancaster and York in the 15th century. Julius Caesar is a play exploring the chaos that results when a monarch dies without obvious successors. When she died in 1603, the Scottish House of Stuart took the throne with James I (James VI of Scotland) ruling.

One of the primary concerns of Julius Caesar, the play by William Shakespeare, is the controversy over the absolute authority of a ruler and that this same concern was an important issue in Elizabethan England, especially given the close interweaving of religion and politics in that society. Puritan reformers, like the Roman tribunes, felt that power should reside with the people, not with the crown, while religious conservatives up-held the belief that the monarchy is the reservoir of power. Caesar challenged the absolute authority of the crown, and at the same time threatened the power of the aristocracy by creating turmoil in that class. 

Scholars from all over the world agree that, when William Shakespeare sat down to pen his epic English history plays and his stirring dramas of ancient Greece and Rome, he had several significant source volumes open beside him.

Many critics agree that Shakespeare’s sole literary source for Julius Caesar was Plutarch’s Lives of the Greeks and Romans, which Sir Thomas North translated in 1579 from a French version by Jacques Amyot. The French version was a translation of a Latin version of Plutarch’s original Greek version. It was the lives of men, not abstract political principles, that interested Plutarch. As a result, of all Shakespeare’s sources, the Lives is the most dramatic. Plutarch provides not only the outline for a plot but many of the smaller details that give life to the play: the attempted warning by Artemidorus, the distress of Portia, and the murder of the poet Cinna. 

Shakespeare may also have borrowed ideas from Dante’s Divine Comedy (in which Brutus and Cassius occupy the lowest circle of hell) and Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales (in which “The Monk’s Tale” presents Caesar as a victim rather than a villain). 

There is also known to have been a Latin play on the same theme performed at Oxford in 1582, from which the line from Caesar the Brutus, “Et tu, Brute” may have been taken. It is not surprising that over the centuries many writers have commented that the play Julius Caesar seems as much Brutus’ as Caesar’s, since Shakespeare used Plutarch’s Life of Brutus and Life of Mark Antony as well as the Life of Caesar. 

The play owes more to Plutarch’s Life of Brutus than to the Lives of Caesar and Mark Antony combined, since Brutus figures prominently throughout the play. Shakespeare followed North’s text closely; some of his lines are taken almost word for word from North, but no biblical references, some the biblical references in Julius Caesar may have been suggested to Shakespeare by certain phrases and expressions in North’s translation. There are several perplexing passages in the play that resemble both North and Scripture so closely that it is difficult to determine whether the resemblance to Scripture is accidental or whether Shakespeare consciously used Scripture to augment what he found in North. Some of the resemblances are verbal; others involve parallel situations or ideas. Both Scripture and North are quoted alongside Shakespeare’s lines in these instances so that the reader can judge for himself whether Shakespeare’s passage is based on North or on Scripture, or whether Shakespeare combined the two sources. 

As for historical background, William Shakespeare would have had access to such handbooks as Lodowick Lloyd’s The Consent of Time written in 1590 and William Reynold’s A Chronicle of All the Noble Emperors of the Romans from Julius Caesar created in 1571. While the Tudor reign brought stability to an England torn by the Wars of the Roses, the English still worried about a return of civil war, and so Caesar was a character of great interest to them, as they saw in him a strong leader who could impose order in a chaotic world. 

The number of other sources from which William Shakespeare may have borrowed is legion. These include translations of Appian, Tacitus, Ovid, and Suetonius; such well-known Renaissance works as Marlowe’s translation of Lucan, Kyd’s translation of Cornelia, Elyot’s Gouernour, and the Mirrour for Magistrates; Latin works by Florus, Virgil, and Cicero. There are parallels between Shakespeare’s play and Orlando Pescetti’s Italian play Cesare, which was written in 1594. Shakespeare probably looked at Plutarch’s Lives of Cicero and Cato. And he was no doubt influenced by the drama of his play: the university plays on the life of Caesar; the Roman plays performed at court by child actors; the plays with Roman themes that came from the court circle centering around Mary Sidney, the Countess of Pembroke.

Hero in Mississippi Burning Movie Free Essay

According to dictionary.com, the definition of a hero is “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities” (dictionary.com). My view of a hero is not much different except that a hero isn’t just a man, but can also be a woman. People in the movie “Mississippi Burning” that qualify as heroes in my book are Agent Alan Ward and to a lesser extent Agent Rupert Anderson (because his reasoning for getting so involved was because he was involved with one of the deputy’s wife). People from the document, “The Murder of Emmett Louis Till” are the people who were willing make a testimony in the case against Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam, and NAACP officers who led an investigation to find eye witnesses. They are heroes because they were willing to take a stand when there was justice to be served, instead of just sitting back and letting injustice triumph. 

From the movie, “Mississippi Burning”, Agent Alan Ward was sent to Mississippi to investigate the murders of some civil rights workers. He fits the hero role very well because he is one that is willing to challenge the Southern way of thinking to get to the bottom of the investigation. Even though he was up against an entire town of Mississippi which the KKK and racial segregation have a strong hold and every Caucasian would stand in their way, and put his life on the line for justice. Just like Agent Ward stated, “Some things are worth dying for” (Ward). He was even willing to go against his morals and do things his partner, Agent Rupert Anderson’s way, which is more of the unethical or bad cop way. Agent Rupert Anderson also fills the role of a hero, but to a lesser extend because his reasoning was more of a selfish way of thinking. Although he played a big role in the investigation which is a brave deed, it was mainly for his own selfish reasoning, thus making him a hero to a lesser extent because his motives weren’t always noble. Never the less, they are both considered heroes because their investigation on the murders were acts of courage and bravery which aided in the civil rights movement because it exposed the racism of the south to the world.

The murder of Emmett Louis Till was another significant event towards to civil rights movement because it helped reveal the evils of the south. The heroes of this article are the people who were willing to make a testimony in the case against Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam, some NAACP officers, and some members of the black press. The people who made a testimony are heroes because it takes a lot of courage to come out and go against the Caucasians in court during that era. In that time, African Americans from the south who would stand up against the Caucasians would be in mortal danger because of the KKK and other white supremacists dominated the south and people who go against them would be hanged or die in through other terrible ways. The NAACP officers would show similar bravery as they put themselves in danger by going out to investigate and looking for witnesses of the murder. 

There are different definitions of a hero, but the people I’ve mentioned in the essay fit the description of heroes. They all show signs of noble qualities and accomplished some brave deeds which fit mine and the conventional dictionary definition of heroes. They all were willing to put things on the line for justice and set an example to all which helped towards the civil rights movement. Like stated in the end of the movie, “Mississippi Burning”, these heroes will be “Not Forgotten”.
